The antique map titled ‘Cyprvs Insvla’, created in 1665, depicts the island of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. ‘Cyprvs Insvla’ translates to ‘Island of Cyprus’ in English. In the early 17th century, Cyprus was under the control of the Ottoman Empire and was known for its production of copper, wine, and silk. The island was also an important trade centre due to its strategic location between Europe, Asia, and Africa. The map shows the central location of the island’s main cities, including Gazimağusa, Girne, and Λευκωσία (Lefkoşa), which were all significant trading and cultural centres at the time.
