The map depicts the United Kingdom in the early 17th century, with Fort William, Inverness, and Greenock located centrally. At this time, the United Kingdom was still in the midst of the Stuart dynasty, with James VI and I reigning until 1625 and Charles I reigning until his execution in 1649. The country was also facing religious and political conflicts, including the English Civil War, which lasted from 1642 to 1651. The map provides a glimpse into the geography and landscape of the United Kingdom during this time period, showcasing the various islands and coastal regions surrounding the mainland.
