The antique map titled ‘Magnvs Dvcatvs Finlandiae’ was created in 1665 and depicts the Grand Duchy of Finland. The title translates to ‘Great Duchy of Finland’. In the early 17th Century, Finland was a part of the Swedish Empire and was located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It was a sparsely populated country, with dense forests and numerous lakes. The economy was largely based on agriculture and timber. Finland shared borders with Russia to the east and Sweden to the west. The map may show the central locations of Helsinki, Tampere, and Jyväskylä, but it is not clear what else may be depicted.
